The series contains three bound volumes of removals from public office by the governor from 1869 to 1888. Included are name of official, office, county, date of removal, and the signatures of the Governor and Secretary of State. Several removals in volume 1 were at the recommendation of the Florida Senate. Volume 1 contains a partial index.

The County Guards were created in 1917 (Ch. 7292, Laws) by the Florida Legislature to replace the National Guard of Florida which had been activated for European service as part of the American Expeditionary Force of World War I.
